Meditation (Shamanic Journeying)

As a forewarning: not everyone can get this the first time, or the second, or the tenth, or the twentieth. It takes a lot of practice for some people.

Find yourself a comfortable spot, whether it be out in nature or in your own room, or even the chair you’re currently sitting in. I’m going to write this as if you are at home, in a room with a closed door.

Make sure there are no interruptions of any kind. If you’d like, put soothing music on autorepeat. Not music you will actively listen to, but background noise.

Close your eyes. Feel your body starting to relax.

First your legs are going limp. Then your arms hang lifelessly at your sides. Lower your head, if you are not laying down. Begin to do four count breathing.

As you feel yourself going limp, see within your mind’s eye the area you’re residing in. See yourself rising from your sitting or laying position. You head over to the door and open it up. Before you is not your hallway, another room, or even outside your home. Instead a staircase leading downwards, leading to sprawling nature, wild and untamed, beautiful and free.

Step forth and wander carefully. Talk to everything and anything, for everything has a voice which to speak with. But beware: not all creatures and beings within Lower World are kind or have kind things to say. If you have a spirit guide, it would be a good idea to meet up with them first.

When it is time to return home, simply go back the same way that you came. Then go back into your body and open your eyes slowly.

Welcome back and congratulations. You just did your first shamanic journeying to Lower World without the use of plants or hallucinogens.

Please remember to give your body some time to get used to your coming back. Your body probably will feel very relaxed and perhaps a bit stiff as well.

You mentioned upper world in another post- is it just this world or is there a way to get to upper world instead? (and if you can/are willing to, would you mind giving suggestions how to get there if it is another place?)

Middle World is our world’s spiritual half, the half we can’t normally see that those with the sight, also known as the second sight and many other names, can.

The Upper World is rather different, especially when it comes to safety. Is there a specific reason you’re looking to head there?

Pardon me if I seem rude or intruding. I have this policy where I don’t want to be blamed for ruining people’s lives via answering questions.

Oh, hi, I didn’t expect a reply so soon, thank you. 🙂
I admit I don’t know any of these worlds or where I’ve been going, and I wasn’t sure what to start looking for for more information (I’m trying to look for lower/middle/upper world information right now), you mentioned going to Asgard in the Upper World in another post so I was curious about it for that reason.

If you’d like, I could reply more slowly.

The realms of the Gods and the afterlife as most understand them are in the Upper World. This includes all sorts of goodies and baddies, if you wish to call them that.

The Lower World is where souls go when they are waiting to be reborn, and there they take on the form they are most comfortable in. However, the Lower World also contains the fae, which are tricky to deal with. People usually find their spirit guides here, or their first spirit guides, at least.

You said you don’t know where you’ve been going, but that implies you must be going somewhere in the first place. If you’re comfortable, you could describe it a little, perhaps I could help you out?

The speed is fine, I just hadn’t expected you to be on.
Thank you for that explanation, I can see why the realm of Gods & afterlife would have very different protections needed.

Awhile back I tried the book “Animal Magic” (I think that’s the title) by DJ Conway. it had a meditation to go to the astral plane that I use. It’s somewhat similar methods- completely relaxing your body (although less specific on the breathing), but then surround yourself with protective light, then visualize yourself elsewhere- althoguh I generally visualize myself walking into a place. the exact surroundings there vary- marsh, city, beach, just a field of water.
    Thank you 🙂

If it’s a city, is it a specific city? If so, it could be Middle World.

The others could be Middle World or Lower World. DJ Conway… is not necessarily one of the authors I favor. Ted Andrews tends to have better books, may he rest in peace. The thing to pay attention for, I suppose is not only what you know of the place in your memory, but what you learn of the place in journeying. It could be you’re projecting to “real” places, also known as travelling in the Middle World. It could be you’re travelling to the Lower World – though the city makes me think perhaps not always.

      Hope that’s helpful.

It isn’t a specific city, it was only once and there weren’t people or cars- it was just a stretch of paved road, sidewalks, and skyscrapers.
I didn’t care for much of the book. I tried Ted Andrew’s as well, I think I have a book by him about finding your spirit guide Is till need to read, I’m pretty sure I get to the same place with both methods. It sounds like it’s more likely Lower World.

It has been, thank you. 🙂

    • My “starting place” seems to be some outer-space location, no ground/floor or anything like that, just floating around. (Still need to learn how to stay there for more than a few seconds though)
